The Independent needs a cluebat

An interesting biographical story about Abdulmatallab, interesting for its consistency with the biographies of other terrorists, especially the 9-11 hijackers:

1. Wealthy
2. Trained in hard sciences
3. Second generation immigrants
4. Recently radicalized
5. Quiet and unassuming.
6. Family lost touch with, worried about kid

Wealthy, quiet, unassuming: the Christmas Day bomb suspect

And interesting for the obtuse reporting that seems blissfully unaware of the consistencies:

"As he was charged by US authorities last night with attempting to blow up an airliner, a surprising picture emerged of the would-be bomber.

Abdulmutallab, 23, had lived a gilded life, and, for the three years he studied in London, he stayed in a £2m flat. He was from a very different background to many of the other al-Qa'ida recruits who opt for martyrdom. "

"Surprising"?

Very different background? You're kidding, right?

[Dear Independent, See, numbers 1-6 above, and any of about 1.3 bajillion reports on the 9-11 hijackers, Ramsi Yousef, and etc.. Get a clue]
